Alabanda Ancient City

The name of the ancient city, which is formed by combining the words ala (horse) and banda (race) in the Carian language, was given according to the Byzantine historian Stephanos, in reference to the son of King Kar winning a horse race. In the ancient city of Alabanda; the theater, the council building, the bathhouse and the surviving parts of the city walls can be seen, as well as the two temples whose ruins are still standing. One of these is the Temple of Zeus Chrysaoreus in the Doric order, and the other is the Temple of Apollo Isotimos, built by the architect Menesthes and one of the important architectural works of the Hellenistic Period.
