Priene Ancient City, located 15 km from Söke district of Aydın, is among the Ionian city-states. One of the most striking ruins of the ancient city, which dates back to the 8th century BC, is the 5 columns of the Temple of Athena that have survived. The marble seats reserved for the nobility and clergy in the front rows of Priene’s 6,500-person theater are also among the works worth seeing. Priene, which is thought to have been a very well-planned city with wide streets and avenues, also has the ruins of a temple dedicated to the Egyptian gods.
